Velvet Collection: SPOILER THREAD
* all plot information comes from the official press release, interviews with actors, and filming reports * SEASON TWO DETAILS
The series takes place in the late 1960s and follows some of the characters from Velvet, including Clara, Pedro, Jonas, Raul, and Enrique, as they manage Velvet's newest location in Barcelona and face a new challenge: creating the dress for the coronation of Farah Diba, the queen of Iran. Taking the job means that they will have to work with Omar Ahmadí, the Iranian ambassador, who is dishonest and dangerous and poses a great threat to Velvet. Mateo, who returns to the store to try to recover his relationship with Clara, will also be coming into contact with Omar, whom he knows well from a journalistic investigation he led in the past. And Sergio, too, is somehow involved in this web of corruption.
PRODUCTION NOTES: The season will consist of ten episodes, each 50 minutes long, which will air on Movistar+. No specific airdate yet -- just sometime in fall 2018. Presumably, it will be added to Netflix sometime after that.

Okay, wow...I just got home from work and saw VV's message about this. UPDATED: The Mizona article had some typos/formatting issues, so I went and got the press release from the Movistar website. Movistar is the company partnering with Bambu to produce the show. Here's what they have to say: www.movistarplus.es/velvetcoleccion

I glad that this happen, I think 1. The producers saw how many people tuned in to velvet (sadly, we only saw MAS for 3 episodes) 3. People were pist on how season 4 was....

I'm excited about it also, which is weird because when S4 was over just a couple of months ago, I was so disappointed with the way certain stories had turned out that I was fine taking a nice, long break from the characters (I figured there would eventually be a spin-off, but I thought if we did see one it would be one or two years down the road). It's part of the reason I also haven't been around the board as much. (Well, that and work.) However, I think it's BECAUSE I was disappointed with S4 that I'm excited now...I guess I didn't want a lackluster season (I would rank S4 as my least favorite season of all time) to be the last time I saw all of these characters. I'm also excited because, while I did expect there to be a spin-off, I didn't have high hopes that so many of the original cast members would be involved -- I thought we'd get just two or three, with the majority of the show focusing on new characters. But this is surprising -- Ana, Clara, Mateo, Pedro, Blanca, Jonas...that's more than I thought we'd see. Other thoughts... * Blanca: I have my fingers crossed that, in the last five years, Blanca and Emilio haven't gotten married. I also have my fingers crossed that the writers will use this opportunity to bring Max back. (What? It could happen!) * Patricia: It does surprise me that MG wasn't listed with the cast members, because she was actually someone I could have seen a spin-off built around (maybe with Patricia running Velvet Madrid while Alberto/Ana were off in NYC). I'm hoping her name wasn't announced because she just hasn't officially signed yet. * Rita: Regarding the absence of CF, I'm assuming, sadly, that that means that the writers intend to reveal that Rita passed away after the cancer returned at the end of S4. I can't think why else CF wouldn't be listed with the cast. * Alberto: As much as I want to see Alberto and Ana as a happily married couple, MAS's career is what it is, and I'm fine with the show going ahead without him, just as long as they don't try to hold any stories hostage in the hopes that he'll be able to leave his other projects to return to Velvet. IMO, that was the biggest problem with S4. * Enrique: Ugh. I was talking with VV about this earlier...the only way I want to see Enrique on this spin-off is if he's here to be the designated villain and he's dispatched quickly and it's made clear that he and Patricia are over (see, my S4 rage is bubbling back to the surface, LOL). * Raul: Yay for more Raul! I hope the show explores a proper romance for him. Since AL (Humberto) isn't listed...maybe the show could bring back Toni? While Raul/Humberto got a lot more airtime and development, obviously, I can't forget how achingly beautiful Raul/Toni were in the few scenes they got. * Jonas: I'm so torn here.... The show is apparently casting new characters, and I feel certain one of them would have to be a love interest for Jonas, because this show is a romance at heart and he's unattached. Part of me wants to hold out for Jonas/Patricia, but the other part of me just wants Jonas (and LG) to have an actual love story that the writers commit to, which they failed to give him in S4. * Clara/Mateo: These two are my "safe" area of the show, LOL. With all the other characters, there's great risk that the writers will do something I absolutely hate. But with C/M, I don't have that fear at all -- if they're together, they'll be awesome, and if they aren't together, I know the show will figure out a way to get them back together. I just have no worries. Bring on the perfection that is JR and MH's chemistry. * Ana/Alberto: Okay, I really, really, really want it revealed that Ana/Alberto have given Alberto, Jr. at least one sibling. Make it happen, show!

This article says that each of the ten episodes will be 50 minutes long (so, shorter than the original Velvet episodes). I've also seen an article claiming that Clara will be the main protagonist of this series (as Ana was in Velvet), but I can't find confirmation of that from anyone in charge, and the press release didn't have her listed first or anything, so grain of salt until someone confirms it. This article, written/published in English, helps clarify the terms of the deal for me -- Movistar+ is apparently a pay-per-view channel in Spain, and episodes will be broadcast exclusively there, rather than on Antena 3. I can't find any information on whether or not Netflix will eventually carry this new show.

Quite a bit of news already! Even though Ana and Alberto's love story is what drew me into Velvet, I did grow to love all the characters (with the exception of the villains/Oteguis. I'm so glad JR is confirmed because I was a bit worried on how they could make it work without him if MH was going to be in it. I'm sad about CF, but until they start filming, I'm going to keep my hopes up. I wish it was still on antena3 because I'm not sure how the set up will be when having to sub these episodes (yay for being 20 minutes shorter though lol) with Movistar, especially if it's a pay-per-view channel but I guess we'll cross that bridge when it starts airing. Update: Looks like Amaia confirmed that Barbara will be back for a few episodes here.

Hmmm...a little bit of a dust-up involving PE (Ana).... Originally, reports indicated that PE would only be in the first episode of the spin-off. Now, this site is reporting "exclusively" that PE is leaving her new show, Incidios, because of some sort of dispute, but that she will be in the first THREE episodes of the Velvet spin-off. But FormulaTV appears to quote Bambu saying that while PE will be in "more than two" episodes of the Velvet spin-off, she isn't leaving Incidios for it. Curious. All that seems clear now is that we'll be seeing more of Ana than we thought.

So it seems they had like a little press conference about the spinoff. Here's an article that talks more about it. Basically the main points are: The spin off should air in October. It looks like they believe the spin off could have more seasons. There's going to be a fashion school, I think Ana opens it, where students learn about protocol and philosophy to know everything about the Velvet franchise. They've again listed here who is returning as well as more info on where they will be after 5 years since Velvet's end as well as some of the new characters: Pedro (Adrián Lastra): Manolito will return from Alemania. He will now be 18 years old and he comes to Barcelona as his father looks for a place for him in the company. Raúl de la Riva (Asier Etxeandía):He'll be at the forefront of the galleries in the workshop with a prominent line. He will be the director of a new fashion school created inside Velvet and will meet his former pupil, who is now a successful designer. Jonás (Llorenç Gonzalez): After succeeding in Paris, he returns to Spain highly respected. Mateo (Javier Rey): His relationship with Clara will remain eternally immature. Despite this, the couple lives a very good time in their relationship that is still based on independence. Clara (Marta Hazas): She has become Mateo's right hand and now picks up the reins of his business in Madrid. Ana arrives to offer her the direction/management of Velvet in Barcelona, but her interests lie elsewhere. Marta Torné (TBA character name): Clara's secretary who is innocent and sexy. Doña Blanca (Aitana Sánchez-Gijón):She will be at the head of the workshop as she was in Madrid. She trusts in Ana and will follow her anywhere. She will be the first to fight for this adventure. Andrea Duro (character name not yet known): She'll play the boss of Jonas' taller Godo (Imanol Arias): one of the financiers of the line in Barcelona thanks to his great fortune. He is a well known and popular person. Macarena (Adriana Ozores): The wife of Godo, she is a woman who has gone very far into Velvet and the tie/link that she ends up having/had with the galleries is deeper than we can believe. Diego Martin is listed as returning, yet we still don't have any synopsis on to where we will find Enrique when the show premieres.

Thank you, VV! I hadn't even considered Manolito returning or that one of the reasons for the time jump may have been to tell stories with his now adult character. That's interesting. I assume the lack of mention of Rita means that she has indeed already passed away from the cancer. I'm also assuming that one of the new women is for Jonas (BOO, BRING BACK PATRICIA!), while the other might be for Pedro. No mention of Blanca/Emilio continuing (BRING BACK MAX). And now we have another Gran Hotel connection in Adriana Ozores! That's an intriguing detail about her tie to Velvet...I'm thinking she's a secret Marquez relative, maybe? Or possibly a relative of Ana's/Emilio's? I don't quite understand the part about Clara...Mateo's business in Madrid -- I'm thinking this must be the magazine, right? LOL, for some reason I find it amusing that Enrique's the only one they didn't talk about. Maybe they're trying to figure out exactly how to fit him in, especially if MG (Patricia) is still a no-go?
