This is interesting...the official character profile for Blanca, taken from the BetaFilm site (BetaFilm is the distributor of Velvet for other markets, apparently)... Isn't that interesting? I've watched S1 tons of times, and I don't remember that tidbit coming up between Carmen and Blanca. They had a strained relationship, but that seemed to be more about Blanca being strict with Carmen...not about abandoning her. That also makes me remember something very curious from the first episode of Velvet: does anyone else remember the telegram Blanca received in the pilot? She gets very upset (so upset that Carmen goes snooping to find the telegram herself) and then goes to Rafael and shows it to him. He reads it and asks what it means, and then Blanca says this: Blanca also reaches out to adjust Rafael's pocket, a pretty familiar gesture, but they're interrupted by Gloria. The implication of the scene is that Blanca's in some sort of trouble and Rafael knows about it...they're basically hiding a secret. While we do find out later that they DO have a secret (that Blanca got pregnant with Esteban's son), this clearly isn't about that, because that doesn't involve a "they" finding Blanca. And as far as I can remember it never comes up again. We never learn what the telegram said or what secret Blanca and Rafael were bonding over. So now I'm wondering if the original plan for Blanca was a different storyline than the one we saw...perhaps the stuff about Blanca abandoning Carmen is tied into the story behind the telegram. The writers might have decided to take the character in another direction after the pilot was filmed, turning Blanca's secret into the son she had with Esteban, which led to the affair with Max.

I thought Max was her son? Or was he pretending to be her son at first to get the money?

Max pretended to be her son because I believe he knew her real son had died. Because yeah he was after her money

But then he fell in looooooooooooove with her.
I love Max and Blanca. One of the things I want most is to one day find an interview or article where someone connected with the show explains whether it was part of the plan for Max/Blanca to get together or if it was just a reaction to that insane chemistry.

Oh yes he did!
Ah I'm sure there must be an article regarding that somewhere!

Max pretended to be her son because I believe he knew her real son had died. Because yeah he was after her money Max was scheming with Blanca’s real son to get her money. The real son had no heart. He was bitter and awful. Max had a heart and decided to go against the son getting him arrested. He then died in jail. Max sparred Blanca the truth about her son and said that he was actually a good person. Max and the son were in the orphanage together. He finally confessed to Blanca that he wasn’t her son when he was falling for her.
