North Bound Train: excellent post--I agree 100 percent with your observations. I also share your love of Max and Jonas/Patricia. And I really, really want Enrique's murderous past to come back and haunt him. I would like to see some member of Valentin's family resurface, or Patricia to start to blackmail him, or something. He needs to go down.
I agree about Manuelito, but I do think he felt incredible pressure. Pedro was telling him in every other scene that he had to marry Ines, asap. I imagine that Manuelito works hard to make his father happy in the wake of Rita's passing, and felt he had no choice but to go along. But basically, he is a horny teenager who wants to get laid, and he should be allowed to do that without his father breathing down his neck. That said, he should have done the right thing and broken up with Ines properly instead of cheating on her.
The show ruined Mateo and Clara. I don't believe for one minute that Mateo would have agreed to move to England without consulting Clara. They had a developed a modern relationship, based on mutual respect. If she ends up with boring Sergio I might have to call it quits.

North Bound Train: excellent post--I agree 100 percent with your observations. I also share your love of Max and Jonas/Patricia. Thank you! Glad to see another Max and Jonas/Patricia lover. Seriously, if I could get even ONE of those things back, I would automatically be so much higher on the show than I am now. Max's loss is a little more understandable to me because MI left and has been busy with other projects, but the squandering of the potential of Jonas/Patricia is unforgivable as far as show writing decisions go. There was a goldmine to explore there (and I wasn't interested in them at first -- I took awhile to come around to the potential) -- the chemistry was there, the opportunity to mine both of their characters, the opportunity for both of them to be BETTER because of their relationship, and the awesome parallels that could have been drawn between Patricia's affair with Jonas and Alberto's affair with Ana. ARGH, lol. Exactly. It still bothers me that the show just skipped over real repercussions to this. It all but ruined Patricia's character for me. She's skating by in my mind right now because I think she's a seriously damaged young woman (which the show needs to explore further). But Enrique can die at any time. I do get what you are saying, and I agree he was under pressure from Pedro. I even understood his immediate attraction to and flirtation with Lourdes. It's the out and out cheating and plans to run away with Lourdes that I take objection to, because, as you said, he should have broken up with her. Or at least there should have been more focus on his sense of shame/guilt and also on his actual feelings for Ines (but this is another problem with introducing them to us as already engaged, so we weren't able to see the relationship that got them to that point). I could be wrong, but I don't think she'll actually end up with Sergio. Even though I think the show has made a lot of boneheaded moves, someone there has to remember/grasp the popularity of Clara/Mateo. To compare them to, say, Jonas/Patricia...I don't know that they were ever really popular with the wider fandom (though I don't have much in the way to gauge that -- it's just a feeling I have), but Clara/Mateo have always seemed, to me, to be a really Big Deal. I can't believe the show would drop them, even with JR busy elsewhere. I'm sure there'll be more Clara/Sergio (argh) in S2, but the closing Clara/Mateo scenes seemed like the showrunners are leaving the door open as much as they can. It'll just be aggravating to watch them spin their wheels and come up with contrivances until they get to the end-game.

They were most certainly a goldmine! I will NEVER be over this! Patricia/Jonas could have been so much more than they were and it just pains me knowing how it ended for them. A part of me wishes they would have never even started with them if they were only going to keep them apart. But at the same time, I'm still glad we got to see them happen even if it was short. But still that pontential they had!
I don't think Clara and Sergio will end up together either. I'm giving the writers the benefit of the doubt and trusting them that even though they decided on this ridiculous storyline that they wouldn't dare to actually split Clara/Mateo up for good. They did end on rather good terms so I'm holding out for hope. I just hate how Mateo has no idea about Clara's interest in Sergio. I know they meant for this storyline to kinda be about Clara wanting to be an independant woman and furthering her career and all that but I think they kind of tainted it with her having feelings for Sergio. It's just really hard to believe her only reason for not going with him to England is because she doesn't want to give up her career. It would be more believable if she had zero feelings for Sergio but of course they had to make it that she does have feelings for him. Ugh this whole storyline just annoys me. The writers/showrunners know how much the fans love Clara/Mateo so yeah I think you're right in that by the end we will see them (hopefully) back together.

Completely still hooked on Velvet franchise! Here are my takes: MANUELITO- I think his fickleness plays to his Infantes genetics. He is very much his father's son. He chose a plain girl very much like Rita, but with WAY less wit! She strikes me as a weak girl, much like Ann in Arrested Development. HIs falling for Ines is a lot like Jonas and Patricia. I think Manuelito comes by it naturally. Speaking of Ines, I haven't seen anyone mention the brilliant casting of her character. She could EASILY play Christina as a teenager. BTW, where is Christina?
GODO family- Can we ever have an event that doesn't somehow tie the wine into it? Sra Godo looks a lot like Blanca. Good for her for getting away from her husband, but not much time was spent on flashbacks of their relationship. I will look forward to something from their past. I wonder if Pau or Roser will have bigger parts in S2. OR a spinoff of that dysfunctional family.
PEDRO- He is my favorite character. I am glad that Diana isn't much like Rita other than plain. I will like to learn more about her, but please please don't make her a Rita clone with the jumping to conclusions and miscommunication of Rita and Pedro. Hopefully she can calm him a bit and help him grow into the strong character his mentor Emilio was.
MATEO/CLARA- Just quit it already. Let him make tons of money in London, miss her terribly, walk in on her and Sergio, punch Sergio, and win her back..... again.
RAUL/THE SWORD- dangerous dangerous relationship. It makes it quite interesting knowing the current real world struggles of gay men in Spain. I am not sure if there was a hidden PSA about domestic violence, but I like how the danger is right out front. Raul is one of my favorite favorite characters in both series. He better be ok.
PATRICIA/ENRIQUE- HA! I am sure there is more to come on that. I think the Hippie thing is a ruse, and she is her old self. Enrique seems like a broken man besides when dealing with Sr Godo, so I am curious if Barbara finally broke him, or he is softer because of Lourdes/Ines. Wait, Did I confuse them?
I am excited for Season 2. I have even gone back and watched Velvet again! How long until VC returns?

I can't wait to see how they take the storylines in season 2. I hope Raul is ok, he's such a vital part of the show. I love Pedro and can't wait to see him pursue a love interest. He needs a wife. I'm glad there's a season 2.

Raul is my favorite character in the show. His energy and personality are always explosive and he makes me laugh all of the time. I really hope nothing happens to him in Season 2. I am anxiously awaiting!

I am way too excited that I've found this forum. I got into Spanish TV with Grand Hotel (Julio and Andrés best bromance ever!!) But, before I knew it, I had finished GH and was sad. So, I chanced on to Velvet and the rest is history! I was THRILLED to see Netflix pick up Velvet Collection so quickly and, alas, I have quickly finished all 10 episodes.
Here are my (much needed??😱😱😉😉) thoughts....
Pedro - OMG. I felt his pain. LOVED Rita!! 😭😭😭 Adrián Lastar just below away with his acting talent. The whole story line of Pedro grieving and his coping with the loss of Rita was so beautifully done. I'm glad/sad Pedro is getting ready to move on, but really the woman who brought him the letters (Diana?) isn't it.
Clara and Mateo - I love Mateo. MAS may have a rockin' bod but the character of Mateo to me was more complex, human and likable. I HATE, like the rest of you, this whole Clara/Sergio nonsense. There's no need for it. Clara, after all she's been through, should be better than that. Plus, I agree, there's no chemistry between the two actors. Right now, to me, all Sergio is is eye candy. There's no emotion or depth there. Just because Javier Rey isn't available doesn't automatically mean Clara and Mateo have to break up.
Raúl - I am not in the majority of fans who loved him this season, especially when he showed up drunk to Jonás wedding. I also don't like him with "The Needle" who may appear to love Raúl but I don't trust him. That being said, when Clara was looking at the fight I was hoping it was Mateo coming to back to her. I totally didn't see the accident coming. Raúl has to be ok!! We're just getting over Rita and Emilio!!
Lourdes - I love how the actress looks a bit like Amaia Salamanca and had Barbara's mannerisms and temperament. I would have liked to have seen more of that before the whole romance with Manolito. (On the fence about this. I sort of feel bad for Ines but she's such a clueless drip. Useless. She needs to turn evil like Cristina!!)
Finally, right now I could really care less about the whole Godó family. The whole story line doesn't fit in with Velvet. It's like watching a complete different show.
Anyway, now I don't know where to turn next. I started Cable Girls, but it didn't grab me. I want to keep on the Spanish show kick as I'm determined to learn the language. I'm using Duolingo and Babbel programs. I am a bit away from getting rid of the Engish subtitles, especially when the Infantes boys get going. Dios Mío!!
FWIW, I'm an American expat living in Ireland. Would love to go to Palacio de la Magdalena someday!!
One more thing, I absolutely LOVE the sets and costumes in VC!!
Looking forward to chatting! ¡Chao!
PS: Northbound Train, loved your post. I agree with it all. I don't mind seeing the Infantes boys taking center stage for awhile though as opposed to the forced trio of Clara, Paloma, and Marie.
Paloma - The character and actress reminds me of Donna from Suits.
I'm all for Patricia getting revenge on Enrique. I hope there's more of her next season. He's such an A$$hole!!

It is Tiempos De Guerra, another show by the same producers who created Gran Hotel and Velvet. There was only one season of TDG and it is on Netflix.
