London, April 25, 1952 Dear Ana, Two months have passed since my last letter. Not that I have not wanted to write during this time ... it was i could not. Since they brought me here to London I've been saving. Saving to get away from here, to travel to Paris, to go to pick you... All these months I have been without going to the movies on Sundays, smoking, keeping in a box all the money my father sent me for my expenses. I had even pawned the gifts that Gloria had made me this Christmas. And in late February I exploded. I take advantage one afternoon we had free to escape to the station and catch the first train out to Dover. My idea was to get there to take the ferry to Calais, and then travel to Paris ... Yes, I know what you're thinking, you would have noticed before anybody else. The passport! What a man of the world I'm done ... I only realized seconds before asking the ticket for the boat. From there it was all very fast. The police, the call to boarding school, the train back to, my father on the phone ... Imagine the rest. Even my father came to see me. This can not go on, I have to mature, i have to forget you ... Forget you? don't they know how ridiculous they look to me when they say i must forget you. I love you, Ana. I don't forget you, because I do not know how to do it ... nor i want, Alberto.

Listen to the eighth letter Alberto sent to Ana from London. London, May 22, 1952 Dear Ana, Look at the postcard image that I send you. Do you see that mailbox at the end of the bridge? From that box I will send you this letter in a few minutes, just when i finish writing it. Today I have a free afternoon and I have come to know the Big Ben. Can you believe I've been all these months in London and i had never come to see the Big Ben? It's like being in Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower ... It's like being in Madrid and not going to our galleries ... this my father will like to read it, or whoever read these letters. These days the Otegui are accompanying me, some friends of my father. They have come to spend a few days here, and they insist in inviting me to dinner every night, take me for a walk, to the theater. They came with their two children, who do not rub off on me. Like they were two little spies who my father would have hired. Moreover the Otegui have brought me a letter from my father. He congratulates me for the grades I'm achieving. He said that those notes demonstrate the interest that I can put in things when I want, and that's why he got me an apprenticeship in a store here in London. You know what that means, right? I'm going to stay here all the summer. The Otegui say i should be very excited ... but you and I know well why they have organized all this. To make me forget you. And I don't forget you, but Ana, I have to tell you that sometimes I think you did about me. This silence hurts. A lot. Write me, Ana, write me ... do not forget me. Alberto.

I'm a big romance novel reader (the steamier the better! π) and it's been featured in a few of my books. Oh to be loved like Alberto loves his Ana!......swoooooooon! πππ I canβt/donβt want to believe that Alberto would try to forget Ana after he left Spain by having sex with lots and lots of women and having a relationship with Adele. Iβm just going to pretend that this book doesnβt exist and the same Alberto from these letters has been pining away for Ana for all these years. He despairs when he fears she doesn't love him. Actually it's quite sad, because Ana never stopped to love him but he misunderstood a lot of things about Ana, sometimes because their stubbornness and silly proud, sometimes because the actions of others. I remember somewhere in the 1st season Alberto went to London school of Economic then work in the department store so he must be in his early 20s. In season 1 Alberto celebrated his 31st birthday. So about 5-6 years magically dissapeared... well, this is basically a fairy tale so... why not?

Once i finish with the letters i will probably translate Alberto's diary parts in the book if you like, the entire book is a bit too much sorry... that's why you should not stop thanking VV all the work she is putting into translating so wonderfully the episodes and having them in such a short amount of time.

These are the letters that Alberto sent to Ana from London after they were separated. Do you remember that Alberto told Ana about them and to look for them in the first episode of the first season? they are the same letters that Cristina destroyed when she found them in Ana's room. The book is "Noches de Tercipelo" ("Nights of Velvet"), published the week before the 4th season first episode, it's about Adele Lavigne 1st person, the french woman who told Cristina about Alberto's status, how she meets him in New York and begins to work for him.

The ninth letter of Alberto to Ana from London
Alberto has become a fashion expert, who was going to tell him ... The young man continues writing Ana, he can't forget and don't want that ever happens. Dear Ana, In the store where I worked all summer as an apprentice, they are preparing the fashion show of the new season. I am here, one more. None of the "seΓ±orito Alberto", I've lived for three months the life you've always had in the galleries. And thanks to that I have accustomed to think about you in another way, in a way that also hurts me less ... Now i don't try to remember only your face. Now I think of you watching it all through your eyes. ... Life... through your glance Ana. Do you remember? Years ago, one day you told me, "You'll have to teach me." And that I'm trying, to learn and then to share it all with you. So I have become a fashion expert, Ana, who was going to tell you ( spanish expresion about something you didn't expect to happen, quien te iba a decir/who was going to tell you.. i don't know if that makes sense in english). Fashion ... and everything that can be sold. This is another world. You can not only buy clothes or perfumes, here you can find everything. Cars! Washing machines! TVs! This is the future, all future, in one building. I wish you were here to see it. I do not want to forget you ... Nor i could. But I begin to suspect that maybe you ... you did have forgotten me. It is strange that in all this time you have not tried, in anyway, to contact me. If you also would feel what I feel here alone, without you ... this pain, this emptyness ... would you do everything possible to let me know ... Have you forgotten me, Ana? Have they said anything bad about me ... have they make you think that I do not want to know anything about you? I can't forget you, Ana ... but sometimes I think I'll be better if someday I get to do it. Please do not let that ever happens. I love you. Alberto.

www.antena3.com/series/velvet/cartasalberto/decima-carta-alberto-ana-londres_20140428571b9f846584a8abb5809ea5.htmlThe tenth letter of Alberto Ana from LondonDesperate to be answered by Ana to all his letters for nine months, Alberto decides to write to Don Emilio to tell him everything that he is going through because he is unable to forget Ana even in the distance. Listen to the full letter narrated by Miguel Angel Silvestre. Appreciated Don Emilio, I know the last thing you would expect is to receive a letter from me, but I think you are the only person who can help me at this time. Please read these words with the same dedication with which I am writing them. They are words that talk about the only you and I can have in common: Ana, our Ana. In recent months I have been told many times that Ana and I belong to two different worlds, but whenever they tell me that, I reply that they do not know Ana as I do. If they did so they would know, as you must also know, that Ana is that intelligent, kind, honest, funny woman ... that seems only I in my family can see. If Ana and I belong to two different worlds, it is because the world of Ana is much better. Each month I've been in London I wrote a letter to Ana. But those letters have never been answered. This has made me have the worst of the thoughts: that Ana has never received my letters, that Ana has had an accident ... that Ana has forgotten me. So I write to you. Please, if you ever loved someone with all your might, if you ever felt that life only made sense if it was in the company of that person ... Tell me what this silence is due. I know you've never accepted our relationship either. But if something I could know about you in all these years, it is to be certain that you, Don Emilio, has always been an honest and upright man. I look forward to your reply. With affection Alberto MΓ‘rquez

www.antena3.com/series/velvet/cartasalberto/undecima-carta-alberto-ana-londres_20140506571b9c3e6584a8abb5809bec.htmlWell ladies, this is going to break your heart The eleventh letter of Alberto to Ana from London
Alberto writes the penultimate letter to Ana telling that he had received a letter from his uncle Don Emilio who he asked for help ... London, December 6, 1952 Ana, I received a letter from your uncle. A month ago I wrote him to ask for his help. I wanted to know the real reason for your silence. In his letter, your uncle tells me that if in all this time I have not gotten any response ... is because you no longer want to know anything about me. That you've forgotten me. You already had put the colored glasses ... and you had adopted a new way of seeing life. You were already in another dimension. So I guess much as it pains me that's what I should do also. There is no reason to doubt what your uncle wrote me. After all this time without any news from you ... I have no choice but to believe him. So this is the last letter I write you, Ana. The letter from my farewell. During this time I thought that maybe this distance would do well for us ... to strengthen our love. Silly me. But I do not hold grudges against you, Ana. I believe in you, I know you're worth a lot. Hopefully next time we meet ... you've become the dressmaker you've always longed to be. I want to see your designs triumphing in Paris fashion shows, those with whom you've always dreamed of. I trust you, I hope that luck greets you with the widest of smiles. Ana, I wish you the best. Today it is a cold, gray morning in London. Since a few days ago, a thick fog covers the entire city ... Authorities close hospitals, theaters, schools ... Right now, through my window, I can not see anything beyond the glass. Just a dense layer of gray smoke, impenetrable ... So now, upon i finish writing these words, I will go out and blindly look for the mailbox at the end of the street. There I will leave this letter. And then, Ana, at last ... I will disappear from your life forever shrouded in the fog of London. Goodbye, Ana. I love you despite everything. Alberto
