I am doubtful that any re-make would beat the original in the minds of fans of the original But it's an idea worth trying, for sure. I think it'd had to be adapted to take place in US though for it to hit home with the American audience. Then it would, in my opinion, miss something quintessential.

Yeah, that's the problem -- so much of the show's appeal, for me, is that while I'm used to seeing shows/movies dealing with the U.S. in the 1950s, Velvet gives us a little peek at Madrid society during the same time period (minus mention of Franco or focus on politics in general, which the creators have said they were intentionally avoiding). I agree that any American adaptation would surely base the action in the U.S. (New York, I guess) -- not that there's anything wrong with that, but there's not really a lot new to say about the U.S. in the '50s.

Some news on this front...Variety, which reports on Hollywood projects, reported this week that Lionsgate (production/entertainment company responsible for several other series, including Mad Men and ABC's Nashville) is working on a "U.S. redo" of Velvet. Link to the Variety article: variety.com/2016/tv/global/spanish-tv-drama-formats-gran-hotel-velvet-1201743451/Link to Lionsgate's page so you can see past/present projects: www.lionsgate.com/tv/I haven't been able to find anything on the actual casting/filming of a pilot for Velvet, so who knows how serious Lionsgate is about the project or what the timeline on going forward is. But as far as I know this is the first U.S. media report on the story, so we'll have to see where it goes.

I'm really interested in when or if this is really going to happen. I'm still not on board with it though because so many US remakes have just failed epically and it looks like an English version of Gran Hotel now is in the works? I just think it's an overall bad idea but IDK it just depends I guess.

I think that would be a great idea. I love the show so much, I think it would be interesting to see an American version of Velvet, especially if it goes beyond four seasons.

^It really depends on who is behind the production of it because it does have the potential of being great.

Some remakes have been good...The Office, House of Cards but spinoffs never work. What made Velvet so good is the love affair between A/A. If they get married then the drama from the show will be gone.

This will be so bad and I am American. I can't emphasize enough how bad this will be. Aside from the acting ability chemistry and that will be lacking to the level of what the actors in this Velvet production are doing. There is the charm of it being in Madrid. And the subplot of some characters who are originally from a rural village, i.e.. Rita, Pedro, Clara...So what city in America is that comparable to and NYC being a fashion capital. There was never employees in any high end department stores that slept or lived in stores...So how will the Spanish version translate into an American version.

It would be a different series altogether if shot again in the US. The original Velvet has many layers of acting charm, Ana-Alberto-Christina, Mateo-Clara, Pedro-Rita, Don Emilio-Dona Blanca, and, my goodness, Raul! It is a very sweet show. I don't think it could be the same at all, not without this cast of actors.

I'm American and IMO most American tv shows suck so no way do I trust producers and writers to come up with anything close to what this version of Velvet is. I've loved seeing what life was like in the late 50s in Spain (aside from politics which I expected) and I don't really care to see it done in the US, at least not the way it usually is. I don't think American writers could come up with the complexity that the writers in Spain did. Not to mention the actors, not a chance. Characters like Raul and Pedro aren't usually seen in American tv shows. Also the family theme, Alberto feeling the need to carry on the family business, doesn't happen under American writers. Just a bad idea all around. If they do it, I'm not watching.
