That's a great question! I want to vote the first answer, but I also want to vote the second one because greed definitely played a part in some of her actions. I don't think she would have ever been able to love Andres. The only ones that we know that she did love were her children. Maybe she could have found love with someone else had she left the Grand Hotel but definitely not with anyone in the Grand Hotel. I felt bad for her when her children died and the way that whole situation happened was pretty horrible and that sort of pushed her over the edge though she always kind of had that in her. With all that she had done, her only options were going to jail or dying and she chose the latter. I think her ending was only fitting. Despite her evilness, I still think Diego was the most evil.
But now that I've sort of rambled about this, I think when it comes down to it she was just selfish. So I'll vote the top one.
What do you think?

I found Belén one of the most fascinating characters on the show up until it was revealed that she intentionally stayed "dead" until she thought Andrés had been executed. I absolutely HATED that plot point and she stopped being as interesting as a result; to me, it totally undermined the character growth I thought she'd achieved through the pregnancy/baby story.

In a way she was a victim of circumstances. My heart breaks that she was forced to give up her first son, than nurse him whilst keeping her other son a secret desperately trying to feed 2 babies.
I don't understand why she sabotaged Andre's job in the village and a chance at a happy family life, but perhaps she was worried about being poor and not being able to work.
She was also blackmailed by Sofia for wanting to leave the hotel:She was in an impossible situation.
I think being used and abused by the alarcons just destroyed any chances of happiness she might have had.
Sofia could have found another wet nurse. I think Sofia is actually a villan and just like her mother.
Yes,she was quick to marry Andre's when she found out he was to inherit the hotel, but being pregnant and not being able to independently raise her babies and fear of judgement limited her options.
We women are lucky that we can now raise our kids as single parents, unmarried and can financially support our selves.
Those women's homes for unmarried mother's look awful and all those being forced to give up their babies.
And thank god for social benefits for mothers on low incomes.

Same for me . Even though Belén was always selish, arrogant and a lot of times mean-spirited I found her story one of the most interessting and sometimes I even sympathized/felt sorry for her. Yes she did a lot of despicable things, but a lot of unspeakable things have been done to her (e.g. Doña Teresa telling the midwife to let Belén bleed to death after delivering her baby). For me Belén hit her lowest point after her twin baby, she and Andrés were hiding died and her plan to switch it with the other twin that was given to Sofía failed. She was broken and had nowhere to go. I really thought after this there would be more character development, but pretty everthing that happened after that was disappointing and maybe even out of character. Especially her suicid. She survied the loss of her two children she loved to much and was ready to do everything for. Why would she after overcoming all that hardship kill herself? Why not try to weasle herself out as she always did? If not only for seeing her baby that survived and was taking care of by Sofía grow up .

Everything after that was basically just Belén deciding she did not care about anything or anyone, not even her remaining child (because I guess she just stopped seeing him as hers). Belén's story is the one thing I would most want to change if I could direct writing changes for GH.
