Thanks for this page, I was wondering where I would post my rant since comments on TdG have been on other series discussion pages. Anyway, I loved TdG and I hope there's a second season. The war story was devastating, so it was for the characters' personal lives. I had watched all 13 eps on dailymotion w/o eng subs (I don't speak or understand Spanish) and thought I at least got the gist of what was going on, just not the depth of their conversations. I loved Fidel and Julia together. I have since watched it on Netflix (twice) w/eng subs. Well..............HELP! I'm conflicted. I ended up not being too happy with Fidel/Julia. The confrontation Susana had with Fidel where she said he took advantage of her; he let the wedding plans continue; they had slept together and for her that couldn't be changed (in 1921 she would be considered 'damaged goods', remember Mary from DA) and.......she hoped he would say he was sorry so she could forgive and forget. Sad, right! Then, Susana's confrontation with Julia where she tells her she's toxic, not a good person, that if she was a good person she would have left instead of destroying all the plans she and Fidel had made together for their future. After all, it's not like Julia didn't know. Susana did have a discussion w/Julia about Fidel when they were waiting to rescue Andres. Julia could have left with Pedro when he was discharged and again with Andres after he was rescued. She could have continued her nursing career in Madrid. She never told Fidel she loved him even after he said it to her. When Fidel asked her what she wanted with Andres she said she didn't know. And Fidel, why did he even ask Susana to marry him when he wasn't sure. So, Fidel may have been confused but, although Julia started with good intentions, she mostly did things for herself. I thought her reaction to Fidel was selfish when hr told her about Susana being pregnant. Well, I'm easily suaded, so convince me otherwise someone 'cause I really would like to root for them.

I'm really sad. I really liked this show. I felt some of the characters had no closure. 😆😣

I'm confused (perhaps my Spanish isn't up to scratch) - if they conceived it as a one season deal, one can only imagine the writers bizzarely thought that was a satisfying ending? This is a show that could have another two seasons easily. Such a shame, really enjoyed it - although I must say by the end I was rooting for Andrés

I wish they hadn't left the ending so wide open. The chemistry between Julia and Fidel was amazing.

Hi Everyone!
I just finished watching season one. I say that because I believe it's possible that they'll do a season two, look at Velvet Collection. It can happen.
Now onto my overall thoughts: I didn't anticipate liking this show much at all, but came out loving it. Fidel is gorgeous, as is Luis. I like how the best friends are not minimalized (in plot, in smarts, in looks). Luis wasn't merely a sidekick. We see this with Alberto and Mateo as well, equally great men. This can analysis can be applied to the women as well.
Julia was the protagonist, but so were her friends (Pilar, Magdalena). I didn't like Julia. Yes, she went looking for her fiance and brother, but I just didn't buy her bravery and nobility. I believe this is due to a lack of backstory. There was a flashback of her and Andres prewar, but that was the proposal. They should've shown more of an arc. Also, they could've emphasized how close she was with Pedro. Show montages of them as children, show them overcoming childhood hurdles, etc. Alicia (from Gran Hotel) had more depth. It is hard for me to believe that she'd do a 180 to Fidel given how much she fought for Andres.
Now about Susana, she was rather lovely. I like how she was portrayed like Lavinia (from Downton). She really was an innocent bystander, who gave Fidel the benefit of the doubt. She didn't lie until the very end. While I don't condone it, it should be pointed out that her mother put that idea into her head. I think it is important to note, her mind doesn't go there on its own. The scene that really got me was when she was telling Fidel that "this can't be undone", how much he took from her. Great acting.
The whole tension between the Duchess and the Colonel was pretty unnecessary to me. I understand it's needed to further the plot, but during wartime ...I feel that other Colonels would happily have another hospital at their disposal. It was pure ego. A lot of their arguments (first half) were just stupid.
I wish that Raquel didn't die that way. At least let there be a witness so that Pilar isn't accused (should the series go on). Since the hospital was already going to be attacked, they should've let Raquel meet her end there.
Back to Julia, I found her to be a weak character in terms of the major protagonist. Magdalena grows more. Fidel is amazing in his own right, so it's clear why anyone would fall for him. However, Julia is so bland to me.
What do you guys think? Any points you agree or disagree with? Would love to discuss further.

I definitely agree with you there about all the characters being equally recognized and it wasnt entirely just about Fidel and Julia. I really ended up loving Pilar and Luis. They were actually my favorite couple on the show and I didn't really particularly care too much for Fidel and Julia and I think it has a lot to do with what you mentioned about Julia being bland. I love Amaia and she did amazing in this role but I do think there was something missing in her character. I didn't think her sudden love for Fidel was justified enough. Though I did really love Fidel too.
