UPDATE: After a little over a year, Netflix has brought Gran Hotel BACK for its U.S. subscribers.
Go check out the show now if you haven't already!

ORIGINAL (out-dated) post below:
A sharp-eyed Tumblr user, unrepentantbunburyist, noticed an announcement on Netflix indicating that all three seasons of Gran Hotel are leaving the service on November 15th.
So if you've got Netflix and you haven't finished the series, you may want to hurry!
And if you haven't watched the show before, check it out! I know most people here are here because of Velvet, but Gran Hotel is a good series, too -- it's from the same writers/directors/producers as Velvet, and it features many of the same actors from Velvet (AS/Barbara, LG/Jonas, MH/Clara, CV/Petra, and others).
Also like Velvet, it's a period piece, only instead of the 1950s/60s, it's the early 1900s, set in a hotel in the Spanish countryside. The show follows both the wealthy owners of the hotel and the employees who work there, and there's a star-crossed romance between Alicia (AS), whose family owns the hotel, and Julio, who works there. You can see there the similarities to Velvet and to the Ana/Alberto storyline.
However, Gran Hotel is a much darker show -- there's a whoooole lot of shady stuff going on, including murder, blackmail, kidnappings, etc. etc. There are definitely moments of comedy, but there's more focus on the drama/suspense.
I actually watched Gran Hotel first and LOVED it so much I almost didn't want to start Velvet because I wasn't ready to say goodbye to the GH characters and I couldn't imagine that Velvet would be as good. Little did I know I'd love Velvet just as much.
Here's a trailer for the show from when it aired on British television a couple of years ago:
And here's a much longer trailer from Bambu but with subtitles -- it gives you more of an idea of the plot: Alicia's mother is forcing her to marry a man she doesn't love, and Julio is at the hotel to find out what happened to his sister, who mysteriously disappeared while working there. Oh, and it looks like there's a serial killer on the loose...
